The Middle - the pregnancy

I grew to the size of a small house, the sickness didn't last forever and aside from SPD it was a textbook pregnancy. I never ate anything I was advised not to, I never drank alcohol, I attended every appointment and everything was fine. Our blissful lives continued. We both know how very lucky we are, we have found our life partners, perhaps second time around but found each other at last. This baby was going to be the most precious gift. Our parents in general thought we were mad! Our children were grown why would we have another baby now. But in time they all became as thrilled. Everyone was looking forward to the arrival of this precious baby. At the 20 week scan, baby decided not to move to be measured, three weeks later on our return baby was still in the same position. It caused no alarm at the time, but now it leaves an unanswered and unanswerable question. During the last weeks of February I began getting contractions. At first I assumed Braxton Hicks (Branston Pickles) as Martin calls them. On March 2nd they came again during an evening out. They were painful enough and enduring enough for Martin to insist on ringing the hospital. In we went. We spent til 4a.m. being listened to and monitored. It wasn't labour we were told so I asked to be allowed to go home. Doctor wasn't so keen but agreed when he realised we lived within 10 minutes of the hospital as long as we agreed to go back in if they came back. Home we went, to our own bed and tried for some sleep. On March 5th my eldest daughter was 21. We had a family meal and photos taken, it was a lovely day and everyone enthused about how 'BUMP' would soon be making an appearence. The nursery was complete, a wardrobe full of clothes and decorated beautifully. All ready to bring our darling baby home to.
